Order of Units

Unit 1 - Paper 1B: England, 1509–1603: authority, nation and religion  

2 hours and 15 minutes written examination. Sat in the summer of Year 12 for AS and Year 13 for A Level. 

60% of AS grade, 30% of A Level grade. 

Unit 2 – Paper 2B.1: Luther and the German Reformation, c1515–55 

1 hour and 30 minutes written examination. Sat in the summer of Year 12 for AS and Year 13 for A Level. 

40% of AS grade, 20% of A Level grade. 

Unit 3 – Paper 3 Civil Rights and Race Relations in the USA, C1850-2009. 

2 hours and 15 minutes written examination. Sat in the summer of Year 13 for A Level. 

 30% of A Level grade. 

Unit 4 HISTORICAL ENQUIRY  

Coursework unit which is completed by May of Y13. 

 20% of A Level grade. 

Suggested Resources

It is recommended that students should purchase the Edexcel A Level Textbook which covers the two topics for Units 1 & 2 which are studied in Year 12. See the link below:

Lesson resources including presentations, and past exam papers & examiner reports can be accessed via MS Teams once students have enrolled on the course. 

Expected Homework Hours Per Week

A minimum of 4 to 5 hours a week of personal independent study is expected in order to meet deadlines and ensure work is completed to a high standard. 

It is recommended that during this time students should be working on revision notes or researching around topics to secure your understanding prior to the exam. 

Learning Platforms Used All lessons, assignments and homework will be set virtually on MS Teams, this is also the platform used for the class to share resources, ideas and communicate with their teachers.
