Course Details

The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Engineering is a technical qualification. It provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the design, development and manufacture and maintenance of engineering products and systems. The course is both practical and work-related and follows a manufacturing pathway developed by BTEC. Learning is achieved through the completion of projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course will require elements of home study and some assessments will take the form of examinations.

Modules Studied

  • Unit 1 – Engineering Principles (Mandatory written exam)    
  • Unit 2 – Delivery of Engineering Processes safely as a team (Mandatory assignment)
  • Unit 3 – Engineering Product Design & Manufacture (Mandatory assignment)   
  • Unit 4 – Applied Commercial & Quality Principles in Engineering (Mandatory22 assignment)
  • Unit 5 – A Specialist Engineering Project (Mandatory assignment)

  • Unit 41 – Manufacturing Secondary Machining Processes
  • Unit 19 – Electronic Devices & Circuits
  • Unit 14 – Electrical Installation of Hardware and Cables
  • Unit 22 – Electronic Printed Circuit Board Design and Manufacture
  • Unit 40 – Computer Aided Manufacturing and Planning

What can I do after I have completed this course?

A large proportion of our BTEC Level 3 Engineering students go on to study a variety of engineering disciplines at university. Students can also progress to higher apprenticeships or into the industry as technician engineers.
