Head of RE Salary:  Main/Upper Pay Scale + TLR 2c (£7,847)

St John’s is a very successful co-ed Catholic school with over 1300 pupils including c.300 pupils in our Sixth Form. We have a very strong Catholic ethos and pride ourselves in being a warm and welcoming community, something that was externally recognised in our most recent Section 48 Inspection of January 2020, where we achieved ‘Outstanding Catholic School’ status. The school’s 2023 Progress 8 score of +0.33 was the sixth consecutive examination year that the school achieved a positive score on this key performance measure and a wonderful reflection of the talented and dedicated pupils and staff we have at our school.  The RE department’s results are consistently excellent and have been a major contributing factor to the exceptional whole school outcomes achieved in recent years.

Our RE department is a highly effective and dedicated team and one that is respected by all stakeholders at St John’s. Our students actively engage in their RE lessons across all three Key Stages, and our examination results at both GCSE and A Level have been exceptional across a number of years, due to the hard work and commitment of our RE staff and students.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, conscientious and talented Head of RE who is looking to join our extremely high-performing and popular school.  The successful candidate will be a practising Catholic and will either have a clear track record of, or a demonstrable potential to, lead this subject across all Key Stages, also of facilitating pupils to achieve outstanding results. The successful candidate will be extremely ambitious and highly motivated to support and lead our pupils and will be a role model to other staff in consistently delivering well-structured and engaging lessons; the ability to effectively lead and bring the best out of our dedicated team of RE staff is essential, and successful experience of this nature would be highly desirable.

We would welcome applications from either Deputy Heads of RE, who are looking to lead a department for the first time or current Heads of RE who are looking for a new challenge.
