St John’s Catholic Comprehensive School

Year 6 into 7 Transition

Welcome to St. John's

Welcome to the St. John’s Catholic Comprehensive School Transition Section. Considering the current pandemic, we have put together an area on our website that will help Year 6 students prepare to start Year 7 with us in September. Within this section you will find the usual information you would receive during the induction process and our New Year 7 Parents’ Information Evening. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a physical induction this side of the Summer holidays. Please use this area of the website to familiarise yourself with our systems as much as you can before September; we will of course update you as to how and when we are able to welcome you into the school at the start of the next academic year.

The first thing I would like to say is that our sense of community at St. John’s is one of our strengths. The staff you will encounter throughout the school will all be able to offer you support and advice. Below you will see the Year 7 Team that will be supporting you throughout your first year at St. John’s. As well as these individuals, you will have a Deputy Head of Year and a Form Tutor. They are responsible for your pastoral care, which means they will be supporting you as an individual. Your grades and academic progress are obviously very important, but so is your emotional intelligence and personal skills. We are here to develop the whole individual and if you are struggling with anything, we are here to talk to and support you. This is even more crucial given the challenges the world is currently going through.

Mr J. Steadman

Assistant Headteacher - KS3

Mr E. Sumner

Head of Year 7

Miss J. Styles

Pastoral Manager - Year 7

Below we have put together an induction video that will talk you through what our expectations are at St. John’s. It will introduce you to some key staff members and give you an idea of the systems we have at the school. We must look at the positives more than ever; the pandemic has taught us that in union there is strength. You are now a part of the St. John’s family and we would like you to feel reassured and supported from the very start.

I look forward to welcoming you officially but, for now, I hope that this information will be useful to you all. If you do require any further advice or guidance, please feel free to fill in our digital form included in this section or use the email addresses provided to contact our staff directly.

I mention in the video about always being Ready, Respectful and Safe; these core rules are more important now than ever.

Take care & stay safe,

Mr Steadman and all the Year 7 Team
